Partner Commitments

WTA offers several participation opportunities for a variety of organizational types, including Corporate, Nonprofit, and AZA-accredited zoos & aquariums.

Corporate Partner Commitments
Corporate partners of the Alliance are asked to make the following four commitments to combat wildlife trafficking:
  1. Utilize owned corporate communications channels to spread unified messaging to combat wildlife trafficking, developed through the Alliance;
    • Examples include, but are not limited to,
      • Sharing content on social media channels;
      • Posting website advertisements and other promotional content;
      • Writing blog content and/or submitting articles in newsletters;
      • Executing cause-marketing initiatives that help raise awareness about wildlife trafficking to consumers;
      • Placing consumer and industry magazine advertisements;
      • Writing and submitting op-eds, etc.
  2. Develop and implement strong corporate policies to thwart wildlife traffickers’ efforts to market illegal wildlife products;
    • Examples of policies include, but are not limited to,
      • Training programs for employees;
      • Strategies for vendor/supplier communication; and
      • Reporting mechanisms to alert authorities to suspicious items.
  3. Share experiences, expertise, best practices, tools and resources with other companies in relevant industries to help the Alliance meet its objectives;
  4. Help to support the Alliance via a financial or in-kind contribution.
Non-profit Partner Commitments
Non-profit partners of the Alliance are asked to make the following four commitments to combat wildlife trafficking:
  1. Utilize owned corporate communications channels to spread unified messaging to combat wildlife trafficking, developed through the Alliance;
    • Examples include, but are not limited to,
      • Sharing content on social media channels;
      • Posting website advertisements and other promotional content;
      • Writing blog content and/or submitting articles in newsletters;
      • Executing cause-marketing initiatives that help raise awareness about wildlife trafficking to consumers;
      • Placing consumer and industry magazine advertisements;
      • Writing and submitting op-eds, etc.
  2. Support governance, strategic planning, shared work, and decision making via regular participation in Alliance meetings, events, sector working groups, and other activities;
  3. Share experiences, expertise, best practices, tools and resources to help the Alliance meet its objectives; and
  4. Help to support the Alliance via a financial or in-kind contribution.
AZA-accredited Zoo and Aquarium Partner Commitments
AZA Zoo and Aquarium partners of the Alliance are asked to make the following five commitments to combat wildlife trafficking:
  1. Utilize site-based messaging/programs, and communications channels to spread unified messaging developed through the Alliance and facilitate public action to combat wildlife trafficking;
    • Examples include, but are not limited to,
      • Sharing content on social media and traditional media channels;
      • Posting website content;
    • Writing blog content and/or submitting articles in newsletters;
    • Executing initiatives that help raise awareness about wildlife trafficking to consumers;
    • Integrating messaging and public action opportunities onsite and into education and outreach programming.
  2. Commit to meeting the AZA Policy on Responsible Population Management, which includes acquisition of animals from the wild and other sources;
  3. Share experiences, expertise, best practices, tools and resources with other Alliance members in relevant industries to help the Alliance meet its objectives;
  4. Support governance, strategic planning, shared work, and decision making via regular participation in Alliance meetings, events, sector working groups, and other activities; and
  5. Help to support the Alliance via a financial or in-kind contribution.
