SAFE Matching Grant Challenge
AZA SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction invites AZA members to propose SAFE species and develop collaborative program plans that implement existing regional or global recovery, action, and/or management plans.
Established in 2019 with initial funding support from the Arthur L. and Elaine V. Johnson Foundation, AZA’s SAFE granting program brings new funds to members for implementing SAFE program plans.
This year, AZA has the generous opportunity for a $200,000 matching grant challenge from the Arthur L. and Elaine V. Johnson Foundation. If AZA meets the challenge, the JoEllen Doornbos Endowment, currently at approximately $1 million, will be on track to double by the end of 2023.

SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction Silent Auction
The Maryland Zoo and National Aquarium are honored to co-host the 2022 AZA Annual Conference, August 27 – September 1, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Traditionally, there is a SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction Silent Auction at the AZA Annual Conference with proceeds supporting AZA’s conservation grants programs. Annually, the Silent Auction has been a successful fundraising tool for AZA’s Conservation Grants Fund for collaborative conservation.
Please help us take advantage of this matching grant challenge by donating a unique or specialty auction item highlighting your facility, programs, or partners you support for the 2022 Annual Conference. Share this invitation with your own staff, volunteers, and Board members to encourage them to make a personal item donation to the Auction.
The donation will have a direct impact on the important work conducted by your staff and colleagues to save animals from extinction. Items will be bid on by attendees during the AZA Annual Conference.
