Reintroduction Scientific Advisory Group
The mission of the Reintroduction Scientific Advisory Group (SAG) is to develop cooperative relationships between AZA, its Animal Programs, its accredited institutions, and the scientific community of reintroduction specialists and provide technical advice to enhance reintroduction procedures for AZA Animal Programs.
The Reintroduction SAG advises the AZA Wildlife Conservation and Management Committee (WCMC), Conservation Department, and Animal Program Leaders on issues related to species reintroduction. It is overseen by the Field Conservation Committee.
The Reintroduction SAG is administered by a Steering Committee composed of three Officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary) all of whom are elected from the Reintroduction SAG membership. The primary functions of the Reintroduction SAG are to:
Advise the TAG in their efforts to identify, develop and implement reintroduction-related goals for their Action Plans.
Offer advice regarding reintroduction-related research proposals and inquiries made to/by AZA Animal Programs.
Evaluate the success of existing reintroduction programs.
Identify the latest scientific information about reintroduction strategies, successes and failures.
Provide recommendations on reintroduction strategies for AZA Animal Programs.
