Zookeeper (Lands of Change)
Basic Function: Responsible for the daily care of the animals in the Lands of Change: Australia and Beyond.. Must be able to work as an integral part of the zoo team and communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors and guests.
Responsibilities: Performs skilled assignments related to the care and feeding of a variety of animals found in Lands of Change. This includes two large multi-species walk thru aviaries, an interactive kangaroo yard, dingoes, Visayan warty pigs, babirusa, cassowaries, emu, muntjac, komodo dragons, and more. Once trained, must be knowledgeable and comfortable working with all species in this area on a regular basis.
Interest, knowledge, and experience working with avian species is preferred.
Qualifications:
- Two years of zoo keeping experience in an AZA accredited facility.
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in related field.
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Speaks intelligently and diplomatically with co-workers, volunteers and guests.
- Initiates and writes accurate reports and manages assigned projects.
- Can work a flexible schedule including holidays, weekends, nights, and events.
- Must be willing to work in inclement weather.
Possess a valid State of Florida driver’s license
Experience Required
Two years of zoo keeping experience in an AZA accredited facility.
