Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

Founded in 1952, the Museum is a non-profit institution dedicated to conservation and research of the Sonoran Desert region while continuing its on-gong mission to inspire people to live in harmony with the natural world by fostering love, appreciation, and understanding of the Sonoran Desert. It is a fusion experience zoo, botanical garden, art gallery, natural history museum, aquarium, and research institute.

Graphic Designer (Full-time)

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum located near Tucson, Arizona is accepting applications for a Graphic Designer.

The position will conceptualize, design, coordinate, and produce (includes but not limited to): interpretive and directional/wayfinding signage, event collateral, brochures, postcards, newsletters, banners, t-shirt designs, posters, marketing materials, advertisements, flyers, logos, web graphics, eblasts & membership/development materials. Candidate must be well-versed in traditional printing and production methods, working with (and sourcing) vendors, photo research and understanding the competitive bid process. Knowledge and experience in fabrication and installation techniques is a plus. Successful candidates often have previous zoo, attraction or museum experience. This position reports to the Graphic Design Manager.

Additional duties & responsibilities:

  • Prioritizes, tracks, handles and maintains records that relate to the design, costs and time schedules of multiple projects.
  • Consults with supervisor and client to evaluate individual project needs.
  • Presents initial design concepts to supervisor and client for selection and approval.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Experience Required

An online portfolio of professionally produced work is required (if you do not have an online portfolio, be prepared to bring one if you are chosen for an interview). Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in a related field; or associate degree in design or communication arts plus a minimum of 5-7 years graphic design experience is required. Must be able to work independently as well as in a team setting. High standard of design excellence, typography skills and project management are required. Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite in a Mac environment. Experience with Constant Contact, web design and social media platforms is desired.

This is a regular status, full-time/non-exempt position that is eligible for benefits. Current benefits include ASDM paid life insurance and long-term disability plans. Salary

First Step is currently: $17.05/hour with annual step increases as set forth in the Union contract
