Camp Manager
Summary/Purpose of Position:
This education professional is responsible and accountable primarily for developing and presenting high quality educational curriculum for children’s camps, training interns, and assisting with camp schedules and logistics. Performance of this position will comply with the mission, values, and goals of Fossil Rim and its Education Department.
Description of Position:
The essential responsibilities of the Camp Manager in the Education Department include but are not necessarily limited to the following:
o Timeliness, Attendance, and Preparedness at all scheduled events including tours, camps, programs, meetings, etc.
o Punctual and prepared for each work day (8am-5pm, unless other schedule is in effect)
o Communicate and coordinate with camp organizers to assure accuracy in scheduling, programs and to meet their expectations.
o Use camp software to maintain a customer database and to market our camp offerings.
o Be responsible for training and supervising of conservation interns with assistance of other education staff.
o Work closely with the Programs Coordinators, Reservationists, and Tourism Department on scheduling of staff, vehicles, facilities, resources, etc. as required for camp operations
o Bring new camp ideas to the “table.” Be creative in thinking of new groups to provide camps for, as well as new types of camps, and new timing of camps.
o Prepare and implement curriculum and activity schedules for camp groups, in close liaison with camp group organizers/leaders so as to satisfy their requirements regarding educational content
o Lead and present educational programs at Fossil Rim education venues (including day and overnight camps)
o Assist in creation of annual departmental budget
o Ensure Wolf Ridge Camp remains neat and tidy, presentable to guests at a moment’s notice, both inside buildings and on the grounds, at all times
o Ensure compliance with Employee Handbook, safety rules and procedures, corporate procedures and policies, Departmental mission and goals, and Fossil Rim mission, values and goals
o Provide interpretive conservation information for guests in the form of tours, naturalist programs, outreach programs, and special events
o Regular and dependable attendance required.
The Secondary Responsibilities of the Manager in the Education Department include but are not necessarily limited to the following:
o Provide quality control of all educational material on the website in liaison with Fossil Rim’s marketing and website administrators
o Participate in conferences, meetings, special events and other activities as requested
o Coordinate with other education staff to stock, inventory, and maintain supplies and equipment needed for programs.
o Assist with event coordination, membership and promotional activities, report preparation, on- and off-site representation of Department and Fossil Rim, etc. as required by Director Education
o Provide accurate information and training on Fossil Rim history, conservation efforts, animal collection, programs etc. to Interns and staff as necessary
o Integrate needs of specific camp groups, for example by incorporating TEKS for schools and badge requirements for scouting groups, into educational programming
o Collect, track, analyze, and interpret pertinent management data and information. Produce reports, trend assessments and presentations as required
o Assist with preparation of facilities and vehicles for all scheduled usage
Required Experience, Capacity, and Skills:
o Knowledge of wildlife, conservation and/or principles of education
o Experience in public speaking.
o Good command of the English language, and high quality writing skills.
o Familiar with word processing programs and internet search engines.
o Ability to work as a team member, and with minimal supervision.
o Constructive, positive and can-do attitude
o Flexible
Desired Experience, Capability, and Skills:
o B.S. or B.A., preferably in education, biological sciences, environmental studies, recreation or wildlife management.
o Experience in interpretive education and outreach
o Experience with non-domestic animals
o Sense of humor
Work Requirements:
Usually a 5-day work week, often requiring flexibility and ability to work weekends and holidays. Irregular scheduling in which days may exceed 8 hours and overnight duties may be required. Ability to work in unpredictable and sometimes inclement outdoor conditions and in rugged terrain.

Position Location: This position will be based at Wolf Ridge Camp, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, approximately 4 miles SW of Glen Rose off US Hwy 67, Somervell County, Texas.
