Toledo Zoo Enrichment and Research Internship- Fall 2017
Reports to: Curator of Behavior and Enrichment
Schedule: 5 days per week, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
August-December, 2017

Internship Overview:
This internship is designed for college students interested in pursuing a career in animal behavior, enrichment or behavioral research. Interns will work directly with the Enrichment Coordinator and animal keepers to learn the principles of enrichment and behavioral research through animal observations and hands-on enrichment activities. This internship will focus on the development and implementation of enrichment for various zoo animals, including carnivores, elephants, hoofstock, and birds, as well as research to evaluate behavioral scenarios and the effectiveness of enrichment. The intern will also assist with other enrichment projects throughout the Zoo, including development of new ideas, enrichment construction and evaluation, and animal welfare research.
This internship is unpaid and housing is not provided.
Requirements:
Junior or Senior in college
Major in Biology, Animal Behavior, Psychology, Zoology or other related field
Strong willingness to learn
Positive attitude, team mentality
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Previous hands-on work with animals
