Building Automation Technician

Whether it’s doing routine maintenance on the fire panel in the Tiger exhibit, running electrical wire in the Simon Skjodt International Orangutan Center, or checking the PLCs in the Dolphin Pavilion, the Building Automation Technician job at the Indianapolis Zoo offers an amazing environment to work in! 

 

If you have a High School Diploma/G.E.D., and a minimum of 5 years work experience in system or building controls, HVAC, and/or electrical work, you may qualify for this full time hourly position.   The Building Automation Technician works closely with our Honeywell system to monitor temperatures, humidity, ozone, chlorine, and Freon and ozone levels. Uniforms, PPE, and tools are provided.  Deadline for application is July 14, 2017.  Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment drug testing, criminal history checks, and a BMV check.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Basic HVAC and electrical system troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and calibration
  • Fire panel systems knowledge
  • Solid experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
  • Knowledge of and compliance with related OSHA regulations
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • a High School Diploma/G.E.D

The physical demands of this position require heavy lifting, climbing ladders and scaffolding, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and lifting.  Standing and walking for long periods of time may be required, as well as working outside in all types of temperatures and weather conditions.  Availability to work on week-ends and on holidays is required. 

The hourly rate is commensurate with experience.  The Zoo offers a competitive benefit package (medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, 403b) upon 90 days of employment.  Other benefits include generous Paid Time Off (160 Hours), paid holidays, free downtown parking, free Zoo membership, and other perks.
