Downtown Aquarium - Houston

Trainer

The Downtown Aquarium in Houston, Texas is currently seeking a full time Trainer I, II, or III based on experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • All aspects of animal husbandry and training for tigers and ambassador animal collection.
  • Creating and implementing behavioral and environmental enrichment.
  • Maintaining exhibit aesthetics.
  • Live animal demonstrations including outreach, public shows, and classroom programs.
  • Guest interactions, public speaking, and tours.
  • Being able to train new behaviors in a team atmosphere.
  • Must be observant and able to keep detailed electronic records.
  • Must be organized and self-motivated, with desire to see completion of projects.
  • Assisting other departments when necessary.
  • Communicates effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Support the mission and values of Landry’s and the Downtown Aquarium – Houston.

Job requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree with major course work in Zoology or related field preferred.  Work experience may be substituted. 
  • Paid experience with an AZA accredited institution preferred.
  • Experience working large carnivores or flighted bird experience preferred. Show experience is a plus.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work holidays and weekends.
  • Must have the ability to lift 50lbs.
