Zoo Keeper Internship
The Red River Zoo located in Fargo, North Dakota is now accepting applications for zoo keeper internships. Interns will gain valuable experience working with animals under the guidance of zoo keeper professionals.
Responsibilities include:
- Exhibit/ enclosure maintenance
- Food preparation and distribution
- Animal observation and documentation
- Animal handling
- Animal enrichment and training
- Interaction with the public
Requirements:
- Keeper internships are physically demanding. Interns must be able to work in small spaces or in awkward positions that require bending or stretching and be able to safely lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Able to tolerate strong odors such as hay, dust and animal hair/fur/dander.
- Current tetanus vaccination and willing to have annual TB screening done.
- Completed at least 2 years of college and have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Keeper internships consist of a scheduled work week to be determined by the supervisor and intern. Internships are 16 weeks long. A minimum commitment of 30 hours per week is required (considerations may be made for students attending classes). Interns must be flexible with their schedule and have the ability to work weekdays, weekends and holidays.
All positions are unpaid with no housing or transportation provided.
