The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is currently seeking enthusiastic candidates for its herpetological husbandry internship program. This internship program is geared towards individuals interested in pursuing careers in zoo herpetology, and will provide valuable opportunities to gain experience working with a mixed collection of captive reptiles and amphibians in an AZA-accredited institution.
Responsibilities can include:
Excluding venomous taxa and crocodilians, the Herpetological Husbandry Intern will learn all aspects of the day to day husbandry of the zoo’s reptile and amphibian collection, and assist the herpetology division with daily routines and various other tasks. These will include, but are not limited to cleaning, diet preparation and feeding, exhibit maintenance, data collection and record keeping, and monitoring animal health and behavior.
If selected for an internship candidates must adhere to reference checks, level 2 background fingerprints, proof of a negative TB test within the past year (at intern’s expense), drug screen and pay the $50 intern fee (this fee covers your fingerprints and drug screen). A current tetanus vaccine is recommended.
