Family Farm Assistant, temporary - Oregon Zoo

Salary: $15.00 hourly

Position Summary:
Family Farm Temporary Staff work May through September 2017. This is a seasonal position that involves variable hours and a flex schedule (30-40 hours/week average). Temporary staff members are expected to work weekends. 

This position functions as a member of the Program Animal care team, primarily focused at the Family Farm and Insect Zoo.  Education duties may include leading activities, training and coaching volunteer program participants (adult and teen volunteers, interns and students) and presenting informal keeper chats.  Responsibilities also include direct animal care for the arthropods in the Program Animal collection, including daily husbandry and maintaining records relating to health, diet and behavior. Applicants should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly variable environment. Requires excellent communication and critical thinking skills and a strong team player.

Minimum Requirements:

Two years cumulative experience beyond high school in: zoology, biology or field relevant to the care of zoo animals; two years experience working with teenagers, including knowledge of presentation practices and methods. Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and standard business software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.
