Assistant Education Program Manager

With oversight from the Education Program Manager, the Assistant Education Program Manager will assist with the implementation of Zoo Education programs focusing on teen volunteers, visitor interpretation (exhibits and programs), and birthday parties.  This position will assist with the development and implementation of a variety of curricula and programs for Zoo target audiences and administer quality assurance protocols to ensure the development and delivery of effective educational and interpretive programs for zoo guests.


  • Assists with the implementation and improvement of programs and activities to improve and expand community awareness and understanding of animal conservation, environmental, ecological and related issues and their impact on the community.
  • Oversees Teen Volunteer program in offseason, preparing documents, schedules, and curriculum. Contact for offseason teen volunteer opportunities.
  • Handles all levels of ambassador animals while facilitating visitor interpretive programs for Zoo guests.
  • Presents quality educational programs for school groups and/or camp groups
  • Engages and educates visitors during Daily Animal Program presentations including: feedings, trainings and enrichment delivery.
  • Implements quality assurance and quality control protocols for educational, interpretive programs.
  • Assists with all Visitor & Animal Programs including summer promotions, birthday parties, Special Events, Behind the Scenes Tours, and After Hours.
  • Assists with evaluation of the efficacy of programs and curricula in achieving educational goals and objectives.

Experience Required

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Zoology, Biology, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, Science Education or closely related field • Minimum 1 year teaching or educational outreach experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; at least one year of team leadership experience is preferred. • Previous experience handling animals for education programs preferred.
