Guest Services Manager

At the Zoo, we believe all species should have the chance to occupy our planet without the threat of extinction.  So we’ve made it our mission to inspire people to act on behalf of wildlife and the natural world.  In pursuing this simple goal, we welcome over 300,000 guests each year to experience our exhibits, keeper presentations, and wildlife shows.  Our Visitor Services Manager will routinely view our offerings through the eyes of our guests and act to ensure this mission-central experience is truly excellent.   Drawing upon a naturally positive outlook and team orientation, the successful candidate will lead our efforts to maintain, improve, and perfect the visitor experience including:




•              Visitor first impressions, including:

  • Off campus way-finding signage guiding visitors to the Zoo
  • Parking operations, including visitor transport on busy days from remote parking
  • Grounds-keeping
  • Admissions operations, to facilitate efficient, convenient, and secure entry processing


•              Guest services experience, including:

  • Common area experience covering walkways, plazas, and guest seating, rails, and fences, and restrooms to ensure safe and pleasant traffic flow and safety throughout the Zoo
  • Guest vending services to ensure smooth and consistent operation
  • Way-finding signage throughout the Zoo to improve and maintain clear directional information


•              Customer satisfaction, including:

  • Visitor interaction including surveying guests for important feedback
  • Visitor appreciation
  • Response to any concerns expressed by guests

Experience Required

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Hospitality or related discipline (education can be substituted in lieu of relevant experience). Minimum of three years in a supervisory management role; Minimum of two years related experience in the hospitality or retail industry; Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to identify and resolve guest issues. Must be able to stand and remain active for an eight hour shift. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, holidays, and special events. Must be able to walk large areas of the Zoo as needed. Must be able to work in an outdoor weather environment, including heat/humidity, and/or wet conditions. Must be able to exert up to 35 pounds of force to lift, push, pull, carry, or otherwise move objects. Must be able to operate a variety of equipment including carousel, computer, computerized register, two-way radio, telephone, golf cart, etc. This position collaborates with: Admissions Manager, Facilities Manager, Food & Beverage Managers, Events Managers, Membership Manager, and Media Relations Manager, and Gift Store Manager (out-sourced) Positions reporting to this position include: Admissions Manager, Grounds-keeping and janitorial staff. The successful candidate must have the ability to routinely work weekends and several holidays. Unusual time demands are expected to be offset by a flexible work week, maintaining a work/life balance for this important staff member.
