FLSA: Exempt, Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Reporting to: Education Department Manager
Develop and facilitate innovative, engaging, hands-on genetics and biology related activities for a
Develop and facilitate inquiry-based hands-on genetics and biology related labs for students in
Create and implement adult programming centered on current and emerging health, genetics, and
Engage with professionals in genetics related fields and collaborate with them on planning and
developing events for the public
Assist in the development of curriculum materials focused on genetics for use by teachers
Assist in the development of Professional Development for teachers focused on genetics
Train other Connecticut Science Center staff to deliver family, student and adult genetics
Assist in outfitting and equipping a genetics classroom space for specialized programming
Maintain and inventory equipment and materials
Assist in setting up/cleaning up rooms and other spaces for presentation of programs
Perform other duties as required.
Bachelors degree in Biology and/or education, demonstrating a strong foundation and background
in Genetics or Molecular Biology
Previous experience creating and teaching hands-on science programs
Knowledge of best practices used in the teaching and learning of science
Understands the importance and value of being a member of a larger cross-functional and intra
Excellent presentation and communication skills to a variety of audiences
Familiarity with the Next Generation Science Standards a plus
Flexible schedule to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required
Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing.
Walking, stooping, and sitting for extended periods of time.
Standing for extended periods of time. Reach with hands and arms, seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing clearly.
Must frequently lift and/or move supplies and equipment up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in classrooms. Keen sense of smell when dealing with chemicals.
