SeaCamp Counselor

The Texas State Aquarium provides high quality, entertaining programming through education, conservation, and wildlife rehabilitation. We strive to provide our guests with an exciting, educational, and memorable experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely provide supervision, guidance and direction to camp participants.

  • Facilitate and assist with camp activities conducted in classroom and in the field, including but not limited to daily logistics, STEM activities, field excursions, and aquarium visits.

  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of camp activities, engagements, and interactions on a daily basis.

  • Effectively communicate with campers, parents, and colleagues.

  • Use best practice teaching strategies that incorporate audience inclusiveness, inquiry and STEM content accuracy.

  • Properly use and maintain teaching resources and equipment, including but not limited to those for field, lab and classroom use.

  • Serve as a positive representative of the Texas State Aquarium.

  • Maintain a positive attitude under stressful conditions.

  • Safely drive TSA vehicles as needed.

  • Comply with a safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe work practices to supervisor and / or Human Resources.

  • Utilize best practices and industry trends to inform daily implementation and adaptation of camp engagements and activities.

  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

Experience Required

An Associate’s degree from a two year college or technical school is required or 6 months to one year related experience and/or training. An equivalent combination of education or experience may also meet the required qualifications.
