PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Marketing department handles a variety of external public relations and media relations activities to help promote the museum to the general public and the press in order to drive awareness and attendance, and enhance the museum’s reputation.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Intern assists with day-to-day activities in the department; however, the intern’s primary project will be to assist with media relations activities supporting the Public Relations and Media Specialist. The Intern is responsible for fielding requests for Museum information, assisting with event logistics, and helping to maintain the media contacts database, pitching niche media, and writing/editing press releases and media pitches. The intern may also be called upon to help with general marketing activities, including promotions, advertising, and email marketing


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help write or edit press releases and media pitches 
  • Assist with requests for museum information and photos 
  • Assist with events including collateral development, signage etc. 
  • Update press contacts 
  • Update web materials 
  • Assist with email marketing 
  • Assist with social media content creation


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student 
  • Good organizational, speaking, and presentation skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to take directions and work independently


SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Public Relations or Communications major preferred


LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP:

Summer 2017 (June-August)


WORK SCHEDULE:

8-10 hours a week, primarily during normal business hours 9 to 5 (except events)

 


STARTING SALARY :

$11.00 & $11.25 hourly
