Develops, coordinates and implements public relations and social media programs to support integrated communications and marketing plans for Wonders of Wildlife under the direction of the Director of Marketing & Development and in collaboration with Bass Pro Director of Communications. We’re seeking an experienced and enthusiastic communications professional to share the Wonders of Wildlife story with key audiences by driving impactful media coverage and developing engaging social media content.
Collaborate with the Wonders of Wildlife director of marketing and Bass Pro director of communications to develop, manage and implement day-to-day strategic media relations and social media efforts.
Develop plans in conjunction with the Bass Pro communications team and other departments to ensure coordination with and consistency across company divisions including retail and hospitality.
Write compelling media materials including news releases, calendar listings media alerts and pitches that result in meaningful press coverage.
Develop and maintain key relationships with key local, regional, national and outdoor-related media outlets to ensure ongoing news and updates.
Coordinate onsite media events, live shots and special promotional events.
Facilitate media inquiries including requests for media kits, news releases, video and images.
Ensure consistent and updated information across all Museum channels and outlets, including maintaining press kits and internal messaging documents for the team.
Serve as a spokesperson for media interviews, speaking opportunities and special events as assigned. Serve as host for onsite media, VIPs and/or special groups.
Produce coverage reports and maintain clip archive.
Maintain strong working relationships across all teams and departments.
Develop and implement, with support of the Bass Pro Director of Communications, ongoing spokesperson training for appropriate team members and volunteers, for the Museum’s messages, including messaging for special events and new programs.
Coordinate, with the Director of Communications, PR agency activity.
Develop effective social media plan including maintaining a content calendar that reflects best practices and supports broader strategies.
Plan, develop and create engaging and impactful content (including multimedia photos and video-based content) across social media channels that reflects the Museum’s mission and voice while driving attendance.
Manage Wonders of Wildlife social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter and more including monitoring channels, engaging with fans and coordinating with partners. Public Relations & Social Media Specialist FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Supervisor: Director of Marketing & Development
Track and report on social media engagement to Museum leadership.
Work special events as required and requested by Director(s).
Availability for events that at times will occur on nights and weekends.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or marketing with an emphasis on public relations or equivalent experience.
Minimum three to five years of professional experience in a PR-related role, preferably at a cultural institution, travel destination or conservation organization.
Passion for Wonders of Wildlife’s mission and values.
Must possess a positive outlook, teamwork, flexibility, organization, attention to detail and resourcefulness.
Video editing, graphic design and photography skills are an added bonus.
Knowledge: Requires excellent communication skills. Basic knowledge of computer programs and applications are essential and the ability to operate all necessary office equipment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. High school diploma or GED required.
Mental: Requires a high degree of concentration and attention to professionally and persuasively address multiple audiences.
Environmental: Requires capability of performing essential job functions in an office environment with climate control and good lighting.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to operate telephones, facsimile machines, computers and other general office equipment, to record written information and maintain files.
Audible: Requires the ability to verbally communicate with writers, editors, the media, our guests, staff and leadership team in person and via telephone.
