Education OST Program Director and Relief Program Animal Care

We are looking for an organized individual with experience in both informal or formal education and animal husbandry. This education department position seeks an individual that can adapt to different teaching environments and assist in the daily husbandry of a variety of species (mammals, aves, invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians).

Description of Duties:

  • Oversee and teach all OST (Out of School Time) Programming
  • Zoofari Camp Director – manage groups, daily camp program schedules, oversee program counselors, Zoofari volunteers and manage supplies
  • Traveling Zoo instructor/In Zoo instructor – deliver education department program offerings to school groups and general public
  • Relief Animal Care –Program animal keeper responsible for daily husbandry, animal handling trainings and animal behavior trainings


  • Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple projects;  time management skills and flexibility
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, word processing, excel and internet research.
  • Ability to disseminate information to large and small groups through strong public speaking  skills.
  • Able to adapt to new situations/experience     

Other functions and responsibilities:

  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers
  • Hours are generally Sunday – Thursday 8:30am – 4:30pm
  • Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate needs of the education department.
  • Ability to work productively in a semi-structured environment with frequent interruptions

Experience Required

Education and Experience: • Possess a BA or BS. Additional graduate work in the field of education, biology or environmental education preferred • Teaching experience (informal or formal). • Have job related experience, such as working in a nonprofit organization, zoo, aquarium or other informal education facility • Knowledge and experience with animal husbandry; particularly tractable program animals

Further Comments

Qualifications: • Successful completion of a background check. • Ability to work outdoors under various weather conditions. • Valid state driver’s license. • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds.


Full time, 35 hour a week position including weekends. Salary will commensurate with experience
