Citizen Science Wildlife Biologist

Utah’s Hogle Zoo's Conservation Department is announcing the opening of a full time position as the Zoo’s Citizen Science Wildlife Biologist. 


The Zoo is seeking an enterprising and energetic individual for a newly created Citizen Science Biologist position.  The Biologist will assist in facilitating and expanding the Zoo’s conservation programming.  This position reports to the Zoo’s Director of Conservation.  The Biologist will be responsible for conducting volunteer recruitment, training, data collection and public outreach to support the Zoo’s citizen science programs, with an emphasis on amphibian species monitoring.


This is a full time position compensated at an hourly rate with excellent rewards program including a comprehensive benefits package, work-life balance programs and opportunities for professional development.


Candidates with a Master’s degree in in Wildlife Science, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Ecology or related field are preferred.  Candidates with previous experience in a related position are also preferred.  Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational, communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills (skill with working with governmental agencies and non-profit organizations).  Candidates should also have knowledge of statistically based research methodology, collection and analyzing scientific data. Individuals with a strong working knowledge and dedicated interest in local conservation issues should consider applying. 


Additionally, applicants must be able to:

  • work positively in a team environment;
  • represent the Zoo’s mission in public forums;   
  • be self-motivated, organized and reliable;
  • be flexible and adapt to complex situations;
  • demonstrate strong computer skills in data management word processing and presentation software;
  • work occasional evenings, holidays and weekends as needed;
  • work safely in remote, rugged areas, occasionally in adverse weather;
  • use navigational equipment (GPS) and read maps; and
  • to stand or walk for long periods of time, bending, stooping, lifting of heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
