W.I.L.D. Educator (Part Time)
The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is currently seeking a part-time W.I.L.D. Educator. This position will primarily give support to the Community Education Division and the Wildlife Immersion and Leadership Development (W.I.L.D.) Program through youth mentoring and training, interpretation, program design and delivery, and administrative support. The W.I.L.D. Program employs youth from traditionally under-served and under-supported communities in Jacksonville to deliver educational programming as part of the Education Department.
Secondarily, this position will be involved in all aspects of the Education Department including program design and execution.  The daily routine will include teaching, light housekeeping, program development, animal handling, and record keeping.  This position interacts with Zoo guests, staff and volunteers daily.
Schedule will be primarily Tuesday - Saturday (weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events as required by the needs of the department.)
Education and Experience Required:
A strong background in biology, zoology, and/or life science is required.  A four-year degree in a related field is preferred.  Previous experience mentoring/working with teens is required.  Previous teaching experience with children in an informal setting (such as a zoo, museum, nature center, parks department, etc.) is preferred.  Qualified candidates will be outgoing team-players, will celebrate diversity, and will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, flexibility, creativity, and an ability to interact positively with a variety of personalities and with a variety of ages.  A valid Florida driver’s license is required.
Candidates must be able to stand for long periods of time and traverse Zoo grounds on foot, must be able to drive a 15 passenger van, must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, must be able to bend, squat, sweep and lift 40 lbs without difficulty and must be able to talk for long periods of time in front of public audiences.
