Point of Sale Administrator/Coord.

This is your opportunity to join the dynamic Business and Finance team at Woodland Park Zoo. Applications are now being accepted for Point of Sale Administrator/Coord. in the Admissions department. There is one full, regular, benefited position to be filled at this time.


The Point of Sale (POS) Administrator oversees Woodland Park Zoo’s (WPZ) front entry and Ecommerce integrated software solution for admissions ticketing and membership sales and authorization, rentals, gift cards and some events.  This position promotes and fulfills the zoo’s mission by maintaining data integrity of the POS and interface with other relevant data systems, while also coordinating operational functions and projects for the Earned Revenue teams.


Responsible for the ultimate integrity of the POS, ensuring the overall usefulness of the system for a variety of users.

Serve as administrator for the POS, including maintaining accuracy and consistency of information by owning, creating and implementing policies and procedures related to the system, including configuration of new POS hardware and user account setup/maintenance.

Provide training and usage assistance to zoo staff on the POS, including providing general troubleshooting for staff as it relates to the POS.

Serve as the zoo client representative to POS vendor. Submit ticket requests to vendor and prioritize customization requests from users.

Coordinate updates and general operations with WPZ’s IT department and other appropriate departments.

Identify and resolve POS issues with vendor and internal teams, communicate status/outcomes.

Drive testing and launch of new software updates and hardware.

Lead customer service response to online sales issues and refunds (via phone and email).

Along with accounting team, troubleshoot credit card and daily balancing issues.

Help identify, develop, implement and evaluate marketing & sponsorship promotions using POS ticketing formats and redemptions.

Further develop POS (and additional modules) to improve data capture, efficiency, cost savings, revenue generation and customer service.

Leverage opportunities for data capture from other zoo systems (Net Communities, Rasier’s Edge, Education classes and camps, etc.) for furthering data analyses.

Run attendance and revenue data from POS system to update financial reports and present trends in costs, sales, usage patterns, etc..

Assist in setting annual attendance budget and earned revenue goals.

Collect and merge data for vendor-specific reports for WPZ billing support.

Create ad-hoc and standardized reports/metrics from available data sources for WPZ and board members, as well as for external use as needed.

Along with accounting team, create special order invoices and payments/refunds outside the POS.

Process bulk sales of prepaid tickets.

Manage stock and ordering of department specific materials: admission tickets, receipt paper, prepaid/comp tickets, feeding tickets and punch cards, zoo maps.

Assist Associate Director of Guest Services and performs other duties as assigned.


This position does not perform any supervisory responsibilities.

Able to analyze available data to ensure reasonable accuracy levels, suggest changes in collection methods, monitor consistency of data collection processes, and use various software tools to develop and communicate conclusions regarding admission data that helps drive business decisions.

Afterhours support for urgent and time sensitive issues required and an ability to work a flexible schedule that may include occasional evenings and weekends.

Previous operations experience preferred.

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.


No certificates, licenses, or registrations required.


Strong computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).  Must be able to work with customized (relational) databases, report writing applications and conduct internet research.  Experience with KMIT Focus Point 360 or other Point of Sale software application required; experience with Raiser’s Edge is a plus. 


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
