Water Quality Unpaid Internship

Overview:

The Water Quality Internship will provide valuable experience working hands-on with water quality testing and monitoring by using YSI 9300 photometer to monitor water quality and ensure it remains within set parameters.

Responsibilities can include:

  • Perform tests required to maintain critical parameters in saltwater and freshwater aquatic systems.
  • Effectively communicate water quality results to Stingray Bay keepers.
  • Under supervision, collect daily water samples from exhibits.
  • Communicate status of water quality supplies and reagents to Stingray Bay keepers.
  • Provide assistance to keepers in Stingray Bay as needed.
  • Record keeping and data entry.
  • Follow and maintain all safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the highest standard of work area cleanliness and organization at all times.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of JZG.

*Responsibilities will vary depending on work schedule

Duration/Time Commitment:

All college internships are unpaid. Water Quality Internships are full-semester commitments with a minimum of at least 10 hours per week.  The total number of hours worked per week may vary based on the credit requirements with your school.

Experience Required

Qualifications: • Must be enrolled in or recently graduated from college • Internships available for undergraduate and graduate students • Must have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate schooling • Must be able to pass a TB test • Ability to work in all weather conditions • Willingness to get wet & dirty • Ability to lift 50 lbs • Ability to work as a team or individually • Good public speaking skills • Excellent record keeping skills

Further Comments

If selected for an internship candidates must adhere to reference checks, level 2 background fingerprints, proof of a negative TB test within the past year (at intern’s expense), drug screen and pay the $50 intern fee (this fee covers your fingerprints and drug screen). A current tetanus vaccine is recommended.
