I.T. Support Unpaid Internship

Overview:

This individual will work under the direction of the Systems Administrator. The IT Support Intern will receive training and mentoring from the Systems Administrator and IT Technician as well as have interaction with other Finance department personnel, including the Director of Finance and other employees in order to gain a better knowledge of the company and the interrelationship between Information Systems and the overall company goals and requirements. The IT Support Intern will be assigned the primary role for specific projects by the Systems Administrator and will be expected to successfully complete each project.

The IT Support Intern will have access to highly confidential information, and will be expected to strictly maintain that confidentiality. In addition, any knowledge gained of a company proprietary nature must not be divulged in order to prevent potential damage to the Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens or give a competitive advantage to an outside organization at the detriment to the Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens. The IT Support Intern will also be expected to adhere to all policies, requirements, as are JZG employees. Where project work may need to be disseminated for a school requirement, all information will be reviewed with the System Administrator first, and, if needed, altered in a way to meet the requirements above. 

Responsibilities can include:

Under the direction of the Systems Administrator, the IT Support Intern will be assigned the primary role for specific project responsibilities and will be expected to successfully complete each project. Examples of this may include but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Auditing individual computers to check for proper system components
  • Making system update recommendations based on individual needs
  • Basic computer training
  • Computer inventory
  • Radio inventory

Will provide support to the Information Systems function as is needed to provide a learning opportunity regarding the day to day Information Systems operations. These daily activities may include but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Troubleshooting computers and effectively communicating solutions
  • Providing Help Desk Support by appropriately assisting employees with questions or concerns, and/or referring them to Systems Administrator or correct resources
  • Hardware/Software installation
  • Basic computer maintenance 

Experience Required

Qualifications: • Pursuing a college degree in computer science computer engineering, or information systems related program • Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to explain solutions to individuals with a working knowledge of computer systems • Should have the ability to work effectively, and contribute positively, as a team member. • Must be highly organized and able to appropriately handle confidential information • Must have good communication skills, and be knowledgeable in basic computer maintenance including Microsoft Office Suite, Windows XP and 7 • Knowledge of Dell computers is a plus Please note that this is not meant to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities and that the requirements of the internship are subject to change as required.

If selected for an internship candidates must adhere to reference checks, level 2 background fingerprints, proof of a negative TB test within the past year (at intern’s expense), drug screen and pay the $50 intern fee (this fee covers your fingerprints and drug screen). A current tetanus vaccine is recommended.
