Conservation Education Intern

Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park is looking for qualified students or recent graduates to intern in the Education department. This internship is an unpaid, seasonal position with flexible start and end dates. There is an opportunity for immediate start. This intern will assist with education programs both on and off site for school groups and other guests, help to instruct family programs, perform informal guest encounters, assist the educator for zoo camps and classes, perform Animal Encounter Shows, and assist with special events. We’re looking for an individual with great people skills (especially great with children), able to work independently and with others, energetic, positive, creative, and has a passion for animals and the environment!


  • Present information to the public in a fun and informative way
  • Assist in program development and planning for all education programs and special events
  • Work with the zoo’s Animal Ambassador animals
  • Assist in developing a new Animal Encounters show
  • Assist in teaching zoo camps and classes
  • Volunteer training and recruitment
  • Conservation implementation throughout the community
  • Opportunity for a special project of your choosing


  • Must be a current student or recent graduate (within one year of graduation)
  • High school diploma required
  • Biology, zoology, conservation, or education major preferred
  • Experience working with the public and children preferred
  • Must be available to work some weekends and holidays
  • Available 16-40 hours per week
  • Experience with animals a plus, but not required
  • Must be 18 years old with a valid driver’s license
  • Proof of negative TB test and tetanus vaccination within last 5 years
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time, kneel, crouch, and able to work in all weather conditions and lift over 25 pounds
