Asian Domain Carnivore Internship

The Asian Domain department at Audubon Zoo is seeking applicants to fill our Summer 2017 carnivore internship positions.

Asian Domain (Carnivore) Internship Overview

This internship provides an exciting opportunity to work closely with animal staff and gain hands-on experience in exotic animal husbandry, all while working with a variety of Asiatic species including large carnivores. Interns will learn about animal husbandry, enrichment, training, and exhibit maintenance, as well as how to give informal public presentations to educate guests animal natural histories and conservation.

The program is geared toward individuals interested in zoo keeping as a career but may also benefit those pursuing careers in conservation and other related fields.

Although some flexibility is built into the program, successful applicants must be able to fulfill the general time commitment listed below. This is an unpaid internship and housing is not provided.

Time Commitment

12 weeks (3 months), 4 days per week including holidays and weekends. Exact start/end dates are flexible.

Working Conditions

Applicants must be comfortable working around animals of all sizes and be able to handle themselves appropriately around dangerous animals. This internship includes manual work outdoors in all kinds of weather (e.g. heat, humidity, rain), so an ability and willingness to work in adverse conditions is required.
