Veterinary Technician Internship

The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is seeking applicants who desire a career in veterinary technology and wish to gain hands-on experience in a zoological setting.  This internship is designed for students working toward a degree in veterinary technology or recent graduates from an accredited veterinary technology program in the past 2 years. Interns will work side by side with experienced veterinary team during their daily routine.

Duties:

  • Medical procedure preparation and post procedure break down/clean up
  • Assistance of veterinary procedures under the direction of the veterinary technicians
  • Cleaning and restocking veterinary hospital and laboratory area
  • Observation and assistance in the Zoo Laboratory
  • Observation and documentation of health and behaviors
  • Record keeping of procedures, inventories, etc.

 

 

Experience Required

Requirements: Must complete a minimum of 100 hours of service, averaging approximately 10-12 hours per week, Monday- Sunday, 8:30am- 4:30pm; Carrying up to 50 lbs or more Lifting, unloading and pushing heavy carts or boxes of medical equipment Bending, stooping, standing for long periods of time Working in all weather conditions Tolerance of strong odors, dust, hay and animal fur/hair/dander
