Internship Description • Cover daily husbandry routines as needed. • Assist in the preparation of diets and feed as directed. • Assist in the maintenance and disinfection of the Food Preparation Area. • Observe animal behavior and report unusual/abnormal behavior to supervisor. • Contribute to the maintenance and cleanliness of department service areas. • Adhere to all governmental/AZA policies regarding acquisition, husbandry, records, and animal health. • Perform related duties as assigned • Comply with a safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe work practices to supervisor and / or Human Resources. • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals. • Perform other duties as assigned. • Answer questions from the public about training, exhibits, and TSA animal collection. • Provide exceptional guest service. • Abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the volunteer manual. • Abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the Animal Husbandry Standard Operating Procedures. • Complete projects as assigned • Perform Rescue to Rehab presentation to guests
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. • Ability to write information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standard situations. • Basic personal computer skills including email, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc. • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. • Basic knowledge pertaining to the husbandry of birds and mammals. • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. • Ability to precisely follow complex instructions provided both verbally and in writing. • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays as required, including the ability to work a rotating shift as assigned. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Must be 18 years or older. A current student or a recent graduate of a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in biology, psychology, or related field preferred. LICENSE / CERTIFICATION Valid Texas Driver’s License with insurable driving record First Aid, CPR, AED
