Director of Marketing and Communications

The Texas State Aquarium provides high quality, entertaining programming through education, conservation, and wildlife rehabilitation. The Director of Marketing and Communications will assist the Vice President of Marketing in the planning of the marketing, advertising, communications/public relations, media relations, branding, and social media efforts of the organization. They will be responsible for developing and executing the communications and public relations plan to drive awareness and attendance.

Other functions and dutieswill include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with annual budget preparation and projections.

  • Work with VP on development and implementation of annual goals and objectives for the department.

  • Plan and oversee efforts to increase the Aquarium’s visibility through public and media relations.

  • Evaluate and benchmark metrics for marketing campaigns, website performance, and public relations performance. 

  • Analyze marketing return on investment and provide recommendations for campaigns that produce positive returns.

  • Assist with approving communications collateral and diction developed by Marketing and Communications Assistant. 

  • Ensure the integrity and consistency of the Aquarium’s brand in all materials and communications from each Aquarium department.

  • Provide marketing and communications support to other Aquarium departments.

  • Participate in all steps of the creative process with coworkers, vendors, and media.

  • Work closely with graphic designers to achieve desired goals within assigned time and budget constraints.

  • Supervise media, photographers, and film crews at all times while on site.

  • Represent the Aquarium at meetings and events within the local community and beyond.

  • Work closely with other Aquarium senior staff on strategic, programming and event planning.

  • Approve creative process of communications pieces such as Magazine, email marketing, Annual Report, Brochures.

Experience Required

A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Communications from four year college university is required with two to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
