The Zookeeper Supervisor will; supervise the care, husbandry and disposition of assigned ABQ Bio Park animal species; effectively manage reporting staff; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions and the general public; and provide responsible and complex staff assistance to higher level management staff at the ABQ BioPark.
The Zookeeper Supervisor will achieve his or her tasks and goals by working collaboratively with members of the ABQ BioPark staff, Cultural Services Department staff, other City of Albuquerque personnel and third-party groups and organizations as needed. This individual must be able to work independently and as a member of a team in a diverse, dynamic and fast-paced professional environment.
This individual will lead a small team and in doing so, will ensure that behavioral management practices support the Cultural Services Department's mission and core values. This position reports to higher level management staff of the ABQ BioPark, Cultural Services Department and the City of Albuquerque.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Associates degree or sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university in zookeeping, animal science, biology, or related field, plus four (4) years zookeeping experience to include one (1) year direct supervisory or technical lead experience in an administrative capacity.
Possession of a New Mexico Driver's License (Class D), or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

•Advanced principles and ppractices of zookeeping and exotic animal care
•Principles and methods of mechanical incubation
•Methods and techniques of handling assigned animals
•Proper diets and feeding requirements assigned of animals
•Principles and practices of animal behavior and physiology
•Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
•Safe work procedures when around animals
•Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
•Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations regarding the acquisition, care and transportation of exotic animals.

•Professionally represent the ABQ BioPark in all interactions with visitors, staff, media and other groups
•Serve as an ambassador for the ABQ BioPark and its programs to the media, visitors, staff, the AZA and other outside agencies.
•Organize and coordinate various animal care functions
•Oversee the daily monitoring, feeding and cleaning of exotic zoo animals and their enclosures
•Participate in hand-rearing of a variety of animals
•Supervise, organize and review the work of lower-level staff
•Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff
•Work with a variety of domestic and wild animals
•Uphold all ABQ BioPark safety and personnel protocols
•Ensure adherence to proper dietary measures and feeding requirements
•Respond to animal emergencies and take appropriate action
•Oversee pest control in and around animal exhibits and buildings
•Interpret and explain ABQ BioPark policies, procedures and protocols
•Prepare analytical and statistical reports
•Communicate clearly and concisely
•Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
•Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
$34,736.00 - $41,516.80 Annually
