In early 2017, the Oregon Zoo will be opening the new Education Center and classrooms. Spring Break Camps will be some of the first programs to take advantage of these wonderful new teaching facilities providing many exciting opportunities to inspire children as they explore the world of wildlife in an amazing learning environment. We are looking for skilled, motivated educators to join our team.
The Oregon Zoo is committed to conserving the world's wildlife and habitats. The zoo provides a wide variety of seasonal camps, classes and programs that promote conservation. Consider joining us as a temporary instructor. We provide educational programs throughout the year, but our busiest time is in the spring and summer. Camp Counselors implement existing program curriculum or non-formal education activities. As a camp counselor, you would receive opportunities to teach thematic programs for participants of all ages using zoo exhibits, hands-on activities, animal biofacts and discovery stations. Activities are taught using multiple learning styles in a non-formal educational setting. Staff utilizes best practices in teaching and non-formal techniques and child/group management and may be asked to assist in the assessment of learner outcomes. These positions may mentor youth or adult volunteers.

•18 years of age or older
•1 year experience working as part of a team of educators;
•2 years cumulative experience teaching in a formal or non-formal setting;
•2 years cumulative experience beyond high school in elementary/middle school education, non-formal environmental education, zoology, biology or related field;
•2 years experience working with children in formal or informal education, including child/group management;
•First Aid/CPR certification preferred (Zoo offers training opportunities);
•Food Handler's Card preferred (Zoo offers training opportunities);
•Inclusion experience with special needs children preferred.
