Development Events Intern (Unpaid)


The Development Events internship will provide experience working in the Donor Relations team within the Development Department at Lincoln Park Zoo.  This is an ideal opportunity to gain experience working in a fast-paced office environment focusing on fundraising events.


  • Work with the Development Events Coordinator to execute and assist with the logistics of all donor cultivation events, such as the Annual Meeting, cocktail receptions, Board meetings, etc.
  • Help with mailings, acknowledgements and event wrap-up, as requested.
  • Assist the Women’s Board Liaison with the zoo’s largest fundraiser, Zoo Ball.
  • Assist with wrap-up for Zoo-ologie, the annual Auxiliary Board fundraiser.


  • To gain an understanding of the logistics of event work.
  • To see first-hand how events are executed on the day, and view the various roles required.
  • To gain exposure to a variety of fundraising and Board events/meetings.
  • Develop an understanding of the different areas within Development: Annual Giving, Membership, Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Institutional Giving and Corporate Alliances.


  • Extremely organized and able to work under pressure.
  • Ability to multi-task/work on several projects at once.
  • A strong work ethic and positive attitude are essential.
  • Ability to act courteously and respectfully during all interpersonal interactions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications are needed to succeed in this position. 
  • Graphics experience is a plus. 


  • The ideal candidate is either working toward a Bachelor’s degree or is a recent college graduate. 
  • Please note: This position is an unpaid opportunity but is eligible for college credit.


  • Candidate will ideally be available to begin a part-time schedule in the spring.  Days and hours are flexible. 
  • Ideally available the entire week of July 10-14.  Zoo Ball will be held Friday, July 14, 2016.  Internship would end in early August.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
