The Zoo also serves more than 2.4 million guests each year who come to experience our incredible variety of animals and ecosystems, as well as attend special private and public events and entertainment. The Zoo aspires to connect communities with animals, inspiring action to save wildlife.

Veterinary Student Conservation Research Internship

The Houston Zoo is offering two summer Veterinary Conservation Research Internships, one in Avian Conservation and one in Amphibian Conservation. Applicants MUST have successfully completed at least one year of education at an accredited veterinary college by May 2017 to be eligible. Candidates should have a passion for zoo or wildlife medicine and an interest in research and scientific writing.

The Veterinary Conservation Research Interns will work closely with Houston Zoo veterinarians as well as husbandry and conservation specialists, and have hands on experience caring for endangered birds and amphibians.

 Applicants should have completed one to two years of veterinary education and have an interest in non-domestic or zoo animal medicine and conservation
 Pay a one-time $55 fee to offset the cost of your on-boarding and uniform if accepted into the internship program (this cost may be higher for international applicants)
 A negative TB test must be provided and valid for the entire internship
 Minimum of 200 hours during summer months (hour breakdown per week can be discussed)
 Mid-term and final evaluations
 Research project and presentation to staff with potential for peer-reviewed publication
