Denver Zoo Individual Giving Manager, Development

Denver Zoo seeks an experienced and talented fundraiser to apply their proven skills and abilities to advance our mission to secure a better world for animals through human understanding. The successful candidate for the Individual Giving Manager position is a proactive, confident self-starter that thrives in a fast-paced environment that values results.  

The right person for the role is tenacious, persistent, and driven to succeed in managing the Annual Giving programs and related appeals as part of the Individual Giving team. Success will require the following qualities:

OVERVIEW 

Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving and serving as a key member of the Individual Giving team, the Individual Giving Manager provides both the strategic leadership and tactical management necessary to effectively execute a successful Annual Giving program. The Individual Giving Manager manages a portfolio of leadership donors and prospects, as well as manages the direct mail, crowd fundraising, online, onsite, recurring, and employee/volunteer giving programs. The Individual Giving Manager supervises the Leadership Giving Coordinator and serves as a thought partner to the Director of Individual Giving. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Annual Giving (45%)  

  • Working closely with the Director of Individual Giving, develops the annul plan for the acquisition, renewal and stewardship of donors giving $5,000 or less, through the following channels: 
  • Direct Mail 
  • Online/Social Media 
  • Crowdfunding  
  • Onsite 
  • Employee/Volunteer Giving Programs 
  • Recurring Giving 
  • In-person Solicitation 
  • Develops donor segmentation for all individual direct mail, online and crowd fundraising appeals. 
  • Able to analyze data and identify trends and opportunities for improved performance.  
  • Develops, implements, and manages the direct mail program, including working with consultants, vendors, and develops compelling content for donor acquisition, renewals, upgrades, and stewardship. 
  • Develops, implements, and manages the online giving program, including: crowdfunding, e-communications, and social media, including working with other staff, consultants, and vendors.
  • Oversees Denver Zoo's online giving pages, including the development of compelling content for donor acquisition, renewal and stewardship. 
  • Develops engaging appeals that help to identify and strengthen donor interests and affinities. 
  • Develops, implements, and manages the employee and volunteer giving programs.  
  • Manages the vehicle donation, bench adoption, carousel, sculpture, and garden adoption programs. 

Leadership Giving (25%) 

  • Manages a portfolio of leadership donors and prospects, with an emphasis on both annual fundraising goals and planned gifts. 
  • Works closely with Director of Individual Giving in the identification, qualification, and strategic cultivation of high net-worth individuals with both philanthropic capacity and propensity. 
  • Prepares proposals and gift agreements for annual solicitations. 
  • Oversees Zoo Pride, Denver Zoo's annual giving donor recognition program. 

Administrative (15%) 

  • Plans, monitors, and reports on the budget for Annual Giving programs and provides monthly updates to Director of Individual Giving. 
  • Maintains donor and appeal records in database and hard files.  
  • Develops and presents professional reports on fundraising progress. 
  • Provides support/assistance to Director of Individual Giving.  
  • Occasionally assists with data entry and data cleanup projects. 

Donor Recognition/Stewardship (10%) 

  • Oversees the editing and proofing of donor listings for honor rolls, annual reports, signage, etc. for Annual Giving donors. Liaises with Communications team and external vendors regarding same. 
  • Creates and implements stewardship communication plan and materials for annual donors.  

Other (5%) 

  • Professionally represents the department throughout the zoo, providing excellent customer service to internal and external constituents. 
  • Adheres to and promotes Denver Zoo's mission, core values, and strategic initiatives. 
  • Demonstrates a commitment to Denver Zoo's Safety & Sustainability Policies by adhering to all environmental, safety, & health regulations, procedures, and goals. 
  • Value and consistently apply Denver Zoo's ROADMAP (Reaching Our Audiences by Developing Mission Aligned Programs) process and resources in engaging and educating guests at Denver Zoo. 

Reporting Relationships:

  • Direct reports include: Leadership Giving Coordinator. 

Experience Required

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, along with a minimum of 5+ years of applicable experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment with similar responsibilities. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong computer aptitude. Experience in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook. Experience with Raiser's Edge or similar donor/CRM software required. Must be able to prioritize, manage, follow through and report on multiple tasks on a regular basis. Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail and accuracy. Must have strong writing skills and significant experience in writing direct mail and online solicitations. A strong candidate should also have good verbal communication skills. Must possess and demonstrate a high level of professionalism, diplomacy, and ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to solve problems efficiently. Must be able to function in a multi-task environment, both independently and within a team. Clear driving record. (If selected must be able to pass a MVR Motor Vehicle Records review). Ability to pass drug and alcohol screening. Ability to pass reference and background check. Provide negative TB test result prior to start date if hired.
