Digital Media Coordinator

The Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of accredited zoos and aquariums in the areas of animal care, wildlife conservation, education and science. Founded in 1924, we are America's leading accrediting organization for zoos and aquariums.

AZA is looking for a digital media coordinator to provide ongoing support for our members. The digital media coordinator raises awareness about AZA-accredited aquariums and zoos, as well as the work they’re doing to save species. Under general supervision, the candidate will suggest and implement strategies and tactics relating to AZA’s social media accounts and websites. This position works closely with members of all of the departments within AZA.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Works in a team environment with the Director of Digital Media
  • Performs various tasks to support the association’s Digital Strategy which is designed to enhance our digital presence
  • Regularly develops, writes, edits, curates and publishes content on AZA’s social media accounts as well as websites
  • Provides outstanding customer service to AZA members, and the general public, through AZA’s social media accounts and websites
  • Livestreams video, and provides narration, on the social networks  
  • Shoots, edits and publishes videos using various types of equipment
  • Creates, and modifies, graphics that support AZA’s brand guidelines
  • Supports AZA’s Conservation Channel by regularly curating, editing, publishing and/or distributing videos
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Director of Digital Media or his/her designee

Minimum Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Demonstrated success building, and supporting, digital communities
  • Ability to effectively, and accurately, communicate information in various ways
  • Exceptional writing, editing and copy-editing skills
  • Highly organized and self-motivated; able to manage multiple tasks while functioning effectively as a team member under pressure
  • Ability to set and manage priorities, resources, goals and project initiatives to meet deadlines
  • Ability to remain flexible in a changing environment
  • Ability to remain detail oriented throughout the work day
  • Ability to obtain, and analyze, various types of digital analytics
  • Ability to travel to at least two AZA meetings per year within the United States
  • Ability to travel to AZA member zoos and aquariums located in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Pennsylvania
  • Ability to establish, and maintain, effective working relationships with AZA staff and Association members

Minimum Training and Experience

  • 5-7 years of related experience working with digital communities
  • 5-7 years of professional writing and production experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience interviewing sources to create compelling content
  • Experience with video editing tools and software
  • Experience with various content management systems
  • Experience with various customer relationship management systems
  • Experience with graphic design tools and software
  • Experience with Windows-based software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Listservs
  • Experience with Intranets

Additional consideration will be given to visual storytellers, such as journalists, as well as zoo/aquarium employees.
