The San Francisco Zoo & Gardens is currently recruiting for 2017 Summer Zoo Camp positions. These include a Lead position and Program Assistant, Instructors, Assistant Instructors, and After Care Assistants.
We are a private, non-profit organization which has been in the City of San Francisco for over 80 years. The mission of the San Francisco Zoological Society (SFZS) is to connect people with wildlife, inspire caring for nature and to advance conservation action. The SFZS achieves this mission by education the general public, local school groups and children attending our various summer camps programs.
Summary: These positions are for creative, enthusiastic, hardworking individuals with a strong interest in environmental education and working with children. You will learn and successfully perform (under supervision) the duties and responsibilities of Zoo Camp instruction while inspiring wonder, knowledge and action. Successful applicants will be dependable, flexible, have a sense of humor, and a love for nature and animals.
Required Qualifications: College level coursework in biology, zoology, environmental studies, and/or education; ability to present information to groups; and experience working with young children. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Experience: Some experience working with children (formal or informal teaching, babysitting, camps, tutoring, coaching, lessons, etc.). Ability to present information to groups. Successful completion of a background check and fingerprinting.
Desired Qualifications: The San Francisco Zoo encourages bilingual candidates to apply. First Aid and CPR certification preferred. Experience with children, particularly those with special needs a plus. Experience working with and giving guidance to teens preferred. Ability to work well collaboratively and manage time efficiently.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend, squat, talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and use hands for grasping, fine work and assembly, reaching, kneeling, or twisting. The employee is occasionally required to sit, use hands to push/pull, crawl, taste, or smell. The employee must frequently lift up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often exposed to outdoor weather conditions
Candidates must be able to commit to Zoo Camp Dates - Monday through Friday, June 5 through August 18, 2017. Training will take place part-time in April or May.
