The Environmental Health & Safety Program Manager will be responsible to work with the Museums Safety Committees, managers, and supervisors to implement the organization's environmental, health and safety programs to ensure compliance and to promote a safe, healthy, accident-free work environment.


  • Responsible for environmental compliance of a 24/7, 365-day operation for 1,000,000 square feet of museum property & grounds, consisting of 7 multi-purpose buildings including a 5 level parking garage, Planetarium, Omni Theater, exhibits, programs, and office areas as well as four animal living areas.
  • In conjunction with the Museum Safety Committees, responsible for implementing a comprehensive Environmental Health and Safety Program that is designed to protect 400 full time staff, 600 volunteers and 1.5 million visitors annually.
  • Position interacts (~ monthly) with external suppliers, occupational health care providers, insurance carriers and state, federal & local regulatory agencies in the course of conducting business.
  • Responsible for working with various Museum teams in order to seamlessly integrate the comprehensive Environmental Health and Safety Program during and on-call after business hours, 365 days per year, while minimizing negative impact on the visitor's experience.


This position is full-time, 40-hours per week, Monday – Friday.


Director, Facilities.


  • Bachelor of Science or Arts and additional course work preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of Environmental Health & Safety experience.
  • Experience managing an effective environmental health & safety program.
  • Experience managing and effectively implementing OSHA compliance programs.
  • Demonstrated ability in the evaluation and interpretation of OSHA, Mass DEP, Gov. regulations & nationally recognized standards and experience submitting required regulatory documentation in at least 2 of the 4 following areas:
    • Submitting MWRA (or equivalent) discharge permits.
    • Submitting Tier II reports.
    • Submitting Mass DEP Air Source registration.
    • Coordinating the testing of, removal of and planning for asbestos containing materials.
  • Demonstrated ability in the evaluation of and control of hazardous conditions, including but not limited to spill response.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct individual and/or group training.
  • Ability to obtain or have First Responder Operations Level certification.
  • Demonstrated communication skills including technical writing, presentation skills and ability to interface with diverse staff and guests.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other job related computer programs.


Exempt (Salaried). Commensurate with experience.
