Education Internship- Summer Camp

Description and expectations: This internship is ideal for candidates who are interested in the educational side of Zoo work, specifically working with our summer camps.  We are looking for positive, upbeat individuals who will help our summer campers have the best time possible, while also teaching them about animals and conservation! There will be opportunities to learn about informal education, the role of biofacts, and how to design interactive games, crafts, and lessons for ages 5-12 years old. Interns will be exposed to a mix of education practices, curriculum development, and classroom management. There is also potential to conduct research related to education. Interns will work directly with our Director of Education, Education Programs Manager, and camp counselors to support the education department needs.  

Interns will be expected and required to interact with a diverse team of staff, interns, volunteers and guests. Interns will be expected to follow the directions of paid staff for their personal safety and safety/care of all animals. This internship will require the ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.


  1. Assist with all aspects of summer camp including:
    • Assisting counselors with teaching interactive lessons throughout camp, as well as teaching campers about the animals found throughout the zoo
    • Create hands-on or interactive activities and crafts to be used with programs
    • Assist with before and after care
    • Help ensure the safety of campers and assist with maintaining a controlled environment
  2. Project/Journal: All interns are required to complete an experiential journal and an observation based research project or other deliverable as determined by internship area
  3. Other related duties as assigned


  1. Minimum 1 year of college with 2.5/4.0 overall GPA
  2. Required to work 16-20 hours a week
  3. Required to undergo and pass comprehensive background check
  4. Proof of recent tetanus shot (within last 5 years) and negative TB test (within last year) required PRIOR to start date.
  5. Must submit to drug testing prior to start of internship and prove clear throughout internship
  6. Experience with public speaking preferred
  7. Experience working with children preferred
  8. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Notes: Interns will be evaluated regularly on performance and knowledge. Naples Zoo reserves the right to dismiss an individual from the education internship at any point during the internship.

Wages: All Naples Zoo Internships are Unpaid
