The Oregon Zoo is looking for an experienced strategic communications supervisor to lead a work team responsible for increasing the community's awareness about the zoo's critical role in creating a better future for wildlife and saving animals from extinction.
From strategic planning and implementation to issues and crisis communications, the Communications Supervisor will be involved in oversight of the zoo's media relations, public involvement and content development. If you are a communications professional who is passionate about wildlife and nature and have experience leading a talented and creative communications team; you may be an ideal candidate for this position.
The Communications Supervisor will manage the team who handles strategic and day-to-day communications, publicity and media outreach, content creation, and messaging of the Oregon Zoo. The Communications Supervisor will report to the Marketing and Communications Manager and will provide supervision and strategic direction to a work group of 4-6 regular and temporary staff. The communications work group is responsible for the development and production of owned and earned media content and messaging. This position is also responsible for ensuring message integration with the zoo's support organization, the Oregon Zoo Foundation and identifying opportunities for cross-marketing and shared messaging with related Metro programs and venues.

Bachelor's Degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field
4 years of experience, in a senior or lead role, in a public relations and/or communications team
Or, any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.
Preference will be given to applicants with:
Experience developing/overseeing digital media strategy
Experience managing crisis communications
