Aquaculture Aquarist

The Dallas World Aquarium is accepting applications for the position of full-time Aquaculture Aquarist.  We are seeking an experienced, motivated, team oriented individual who will be responsible for a variety of marine aquarium systems and animals. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in aquarium aquaculture, live food culture, and/or reef keeping.

Experience Required

Preferred candidates will possess the following: ● B.S. Degree in Marine Biology, Aquaculture or a related field; ● Minimum of 1 year of paid experience as an aquarist at a public aquarium or aquaculture facility; ● Working knowledge of all aspects of aquarium husbandry and aquaculture. Previous experience with marine fish aquaculture, live food culture and coral reef aquaria is preferred; ● Valid open water SCUBA certification. ● Experience with proper food handling, preparation, nutrition and proper feeding techniques in an aquarium setting; ● Working knowledge of water quality (chemistry), maintenance and filtration, including familiarity with a variety of life support systems, water testing procedures and equipment; ● Basic knowledge of the taxonomy of marine fish and invertebrates; ● Excellent observational skills; ● Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft word, Excel and Powerpoint; ● Excellent written and oral communication skills; ● Valid Texas driver’s license, or ability to obtain one after employment; ● Ability to lift and carry up to at least 50 lbs and able to work in aquarium back areas requiring climbing ladders, bending, and standing for long periods of time; ● Must be able and willing to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and special events;

Further Comments

Responsibilities will include care and maintenance of large and small marine aquarium systems, including enrichment and training where appropriate, prevention and treatment of diseases (under the supervision of the Director of Husbandry and Veterinarian), and detailed record keeping. Knowledge of ZIMS or TRACKS is a plus. Ability to interact well with visitors and to provide excellent customer service are also required. Exhibit diving and tending for aquarium maintenance and or schedule feedings may be required. Additional activities include participation in safety drills, safety training and emergency responses as appropriate. The Dallas World Aquarium requires all employees to be vaccinated for Covid-19 unless individuals require a medical or religious accommodation. If hired, vaccination must be completed prior to the first day of employment or an accommodation request must be approved prior to the first working day.

Salary
