Position Description
POSITION: Veterinarian
REPORTS TO: Head Veterinarian
OVERALL RESPONSIBLITIES:
This position is responsible for administering the state of health of the entire animal collection. This includes development and execution of a preventative health plan as well as delivery of emergency medical services, diagnosis and treatment of animal illness and advisement of proper follow up care. The incumbent also advises zoology staff of best practices in diet, hygiene and other medically related issues. The position manages the veterinary clinic, its personnel, inventory and procedures. Other duties will be assigned under this position. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). Work on grounds at Wildlife Safari. Work schedule includes weekends, holidays, and after-hour emergencies.
Requirements include a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine with at least one year of post graduate training, one year of veterinary experience within a zoological institution, plus one to two years of supervisory experience; or, any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess and maintain a valid Oregon State Veterinary license and a valid driver’s license. Must be able to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and respond to emergencies.
BASE SALARY:
$62,000 plus benefits. Benefits include:
- Health Insurance following 60 days. Wildlife Safari pays 75% of the cost.
- Dental insurance following 60 days.
- Supplemental Insurance following 60 days.
- Two weeks of sick pay following 90 days
- Paid time off following one year of service.
- 401k retirement with up to a 3% match following one year of service.

- Costs in hiring such as tuberculosis test, background check, and providing uniforms.

Requirements of the position includes:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Oregon State Veterinary license
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug test, including for marijuana
- Must be able to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and respond to emergencies
