Conservation Education Apprenticeship (paid)
The Conservation Education Apprenticeship will focus on developing future informal education management skills along with our curator of education. Additional opportunities include assisting animal keepers with animal-related guest interactions and outreach associated with local field conservation projects.
3-month positions are available to develop experience for individuals interested in becoming future zoo or conservation professionals.
Candidates must be responsible, flexible, self-motivated and able to work both independently as well as in a team.
Typical Tasks: development and delivery of interpretive materials and programs, development and delivery of camp lesson plans, assisting with teaching conservation education programs, development of ride narrations, and assisting animal care team with program animal handling and care.
Skills Training: techniques and guidelines for working safely around zoo animals; lesson plan development techniques; interpretive signage and narration development techniques; and training in delivery and development of interactive animal programs. The position is physically demanding at times, requiring outdoor work in a variety of temperatures and sometimes challenging conditions. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

Experience Required
A BA or BS in animal sciences, biology, communications, ecology, environmental science, education, wildlife biology, zoology, or zoo science is preferred.
Salary
$13/hr; free on-site housing
