Job Summary:
Length of Assignment: April 1 through September 5, 2023
This position is designed to be an ambassador for the Aquarium through a variety of on-site and off-site educational programs. Duties include participating in offsite outreaches, member programs, supporting daily education and interpretive programs and engaging with guests.
Essential Functions:
- Adhere to the South Carolina Aquarium Policies
- Provide an exceptional visitor experience for all guests
- Engage guests through daily shows, guided tours, and gallery interpretation
- Participate in outreach programs
- Assist in member and community programs
- SCA 1st Responder
- Other duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Outstanding interpretive skills
- Ability to work with audiences of all ages
- Must be able to give interpretive talks to groups of 10-200 people
- Skills needed to combine creativity, enthusiasm, and exemplary teaching methods to engage visitors in science related activities
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must be a team player and self-motivated
- Ability to maintain a sense of humor
- Must be able to handle live animals
- Professional image required
- Must have a working knowledge of Aquarium exhibits and animals
- Ability to work weekends and evenings
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Valid Driver's License
- First Aid, CPR, and AED - Required to either possess or obtain prior to start date
Supervision of others:
Physical Requirements:
Often standing, carrying up to 50 lb and driving, sitting; average walking, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing ladders, kneeling, balancing, pushing and pulling, crawling, computer and phone tasks.
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment, public contact, rotating shifts, weekends and required to wear a radio; outdoor work required.

Experience Required
