Dallas World Aquarium


The Dallas World Aquarium is seeking for a full time Veterinarian. Opening in 1992, the aquarium is home to a unique collection of neotropical animals, has been accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) since 1997 and a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) since 2000.

The Veterinarian will provide quality and consistent care for tropical/neotropical birds, mammals, fishes, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates; must have good organizational skills and be able to make decisions quickly, as part of a team and/or under emergency conditions.

Responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive preventative health and medical care, including quarantine protocols, nutrition, vaccinations, etc.  Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of illness and injuries of the animals. Proficient in immobilization, both manual and chemical restraint, anesthesia protocols and general surgery. Manages the clinic and supervises routine and intensive care for hospitalized or quarantined animals.

Performs post-mortem exams to determine cause of death and shares information with management and/or those employees that would benefit from such information. Maintains all necessary medical records, reviews nutritional records, make dietary recommendations if applicable, and ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies. Must be able to communicate and interact with management, animal keepers, other aquarium employees, subordinates, media, the general public and other institutions/organizations (both nationally and internationally). 

A Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited university is required, as well as experience within an aquarium/zoological setting.  Must speak English, and be legally eligible for employment in the U.S. Candidates must hold a valid Veterinary license and have the ability to obtain a license in Texas.  Must possess or obtain a valid DEA license.

Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. Institution offers health, visual and dental plans, short- and long-term disability, vacation and 401K benefits.
