Manager/Director Conservation Partnerships

Job Description:
The Manager/Director of Conservation Partnerships provides guidance, leadership, and coordination of Colossal’s conservation efforts through field conservation, zoo, and university partners. This position will build meaningful relationships with conservation partners to create synergistic relationships that will maximize Colossal’s disruptive conservation efforts.
This position serves as the strategic coordinator for managing conservation-based relationships, assisting with the formulation and execution of Colossal’s strategic plan, and communicating the plan and associated successes externally and internally.  This role works with the Head of Animal Operations to advance Colossal’s conservation impact, build a brand around wildlife conservation, and support Colossal’s de-extinction and re-wilding efforts.  This position reports to the Head of Animal Operations.
*This position will be based out of Dallas, TX with 20% travel required.*
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Works with the Head of Animal Operations to research, develop, and implement strategies to maximize Colossal’s conservation impacts.
  • Manages Colossal’s portfolio of conservation partners; researches and recruits additional conservation partners to enhance our mission.
  • Ensures the delivery of Colossal’s conservation and science resources to partners.
  • Develop strategies and processes to engage governmental agencies and NGOs in the conservation and de-extinction efforts of Colossal.
  • Develops and maintains strong external communications to partners to ensure regular communication, including progress reports, to deliver on Colossal’s conservation mission.  Also provide internal communications mechanisms to engage all Colossal employees in Colossal’s conservation mission and encourage active participation.
  • Tracks and documents partnership conversations, financial transactions, conservation activity reports, etc.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively as a member of multi-department collaborations, as well as ability to work, make decisions and solve problems collectively and independently and at times without close supervision.
  • Excellent written, verbal and visual communications skills, especially as it relates to internal communications among team members, and externally with partners, vendors, influencers and media.
  • Experience formulating conservation strategies and building partnerships to create mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Must have demonstrated success operating autonomously while simultaneously supporting team objectives.
  • Strong networking skills and ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of zoo and conservation communities, committees, etc such as the AZA, IUCN, and government agencies.
  • Practiced interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and passion for building relationships across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a growth-oriented, nimble environment.

Experience Required

- Bachelor's degree in Conservation Biology, Ecology, or associated Life Sciences required; Master’s degree or PhD preferred. - At least 5 years of conservation experience is strongly preferred. - Proven track record of building and maintaining strong relationships and networks among diverse stakeholders - Experience working with conservation NGOs, government agencies, IUCN, and AZA zoos preferred.
