The Greensboro Science Center (GSC) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of a Relief Keeper position with our Terrestrial Department.  This full-time position will report directly to and be supervised by our Curatorial team.  The Greensboro Science Center is a 68,000 square-foot AAM accredited science museum as well as a 33,000 square-foot aquarium and also includes our 22-acre zoo.


The Relief Keeper will serve primarily as relief coverage for string leads and should expect to work with a wide variety of species representing many different taxa.  Collection highlights include small and large carnivores, varied herps and amphibians, some aves, primates, hoofstock, and ambassador animals.  Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: following general husbandry protocols (diets, feeding techniques, cleaning, preventative health, operant conditioning, enrichment, etc.), exhibit maintenance, supervision of students/interns, and public education/interaction.  Skills associated with this position include strong observation skills, creative thinking, adaptability, and ability to communicate effectively.  A working knowledge of training concepts and application is also desired.  Ideal candidates will be comfortable in varied routines and able to adapt to instruction from multiple staff.  


In addition to working with a diverse collection of animals, GSC also offers staff the opportunity to support both local and international conservation projects in the field through our yearly conservation and research grant program. Furthermore, in the next 3-5 years GSC plans to expand by building a biodome and aquatic quarantine facility on premise. Greensboro North Carolina is home to 6 major universities and is close to mountains and the beach. Keepers work outdoors in diverse weather environments, on varied terrain, and must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.  Candidates should expect to work a 40-hour work week including weekends and holidays. The salary range for this position will depend on experience and  is between $14.42-$17 to be accompanied by a full benefit package including medical and dental insurance, retirement, paid holidays, and annual leave.
