POSITION TITLE:              Director of Operations
 
REPORTS TO:                     President/CEO
 
JOB SUMMARY:                The Director of Operations is responsible for the leadership and management oversight of the Operations Division, comprised of the Operations, Custodial, Food and Beverage, Events and Information Technology departments. This position is also responsible for vendor oversight. Serves as a member of the senior management team and senior staff representative for the safety committee.
 
 
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
  1. Recommends programs and policies to the President/CEO to ensure that the operations assigned are managed effectively and reflect current industry trends.
  2. Plans, directs, and supervises the daily Aquarium operations of the Operations, Custodial, Food and Beverage, Events, and IT departments.
  3. Oversees internal workflows and organizational development; ensures communication and information flow throughout the organization is efficiently managed to provide all employees and managers with current, pertinent, job-related information.
  4. Accountable for oversight of all Aquarium vendors.
  5. Regularly prepares status reports for senior staff, special committee, and board of directors meetings.
  6. Prepares and administers the annual operating budgets for the operations, custodial, food and beverage, events, and IT operations of the Aquarium.
  7. Conducts performance evaluations for staff members directly supervised.  Reviews performance evaluations for all staff assigned to operational functions.
  8. Sets annual goals for all direct staff reports.
  9. Serve as senior staff liason for the safety committee.
  10. Works collaboratively and respectfully with all Aquarium departments and staff.
  11. Represents the Aquarium and the directorate at a variety of meetings and special events as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Supervises the Operations Manager, Custodial Manager, Food and Beverage Manager, Events Manager and IT Manager.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (Minimum levels):
 
A Bachelor’s degree in any area related to key aspects of Operations is required: Business Administration, Facilities Management, Communications, or Hospitality. Master’s degree in Business Administration preferred. Minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible experience as a senior level manager required. Experience implementing priorities, budget, and workload management systems across multiple divisions is required. Must possess strong leadership skills and a proven ability to develop, maintain, and build staff talent cross organizational relationships. Must be able to provide clear direction, communication and sound judgment in emergency situations. 
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work involves considerable standing and walking throughout the day, up to 5 miles. The ability to ascend and descend ladders/steps is required.  The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required.
 
MENTAL, HEARING, AND VISUAL DEMANDS:
The work involves continuous mental and visual attention involving reading, analyzing, visualizing, or otherwise performing very involved, comprehensive work. Candidates must be willing to travel, up to 10% of working hours throughout the year.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Some sedentary work is required when performing administrative duties at a computer station.
 
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Compliance with appropriate company standards is required.
