The Dallas World Aquarium

Penguin Keeper


The Dallas World Aquarium seeks a Penguin Keeper to be part of a team responsible for the care of tropical species. Additional experience with neotropical birds and new world primates is preferred. Candidate would be responsible for basic animal husbandry, prepare and provide diets, monitor behavior and health of animals, keep accurate and detailed records, provide daily reports, clean and disinfect holding and nesting areas, and maintain exhibits (landscaping and daily cleaning of pool and substrates). Must be able to capture and handle animals safely if needed. Person must be able to participate in public presentations with guests (both formal and informal). Additional activities include taking animals’ weights; track molt and breeding activities; provide vitamin supplementation and medications when needed.


A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Animal Science, Zoology or a related field is preferred. Candidate should have a minimum of two years of experience working with penguins, with incubation and hand-rearing experience. Must have good observational skills, must be able to maintain a clean and organized environment.

Candidate must be able to accept directions and work as a team member with little or no supervision.  Must be physically able to stoop, bend, reach, climb and lift, carry or push at least 50 pounds. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which includes weekends, holidays and special events. 


Hourly pay, commensurate with experience/education. Institution offers health, visual and dental plans, short- and long-term disability, vacation and 401K benefits.
