Position Summary
 
 
Under the supervision of the VP of Marketing & Communications, the Senior Manager of Tourism Sales leads tourism and leisure sales for ZooTampa. Responsibilities include identifying source market pre-sale and in-market pick-off opportunities by developing and implementing long and short-term marketing and sales strategies. Additional primary objectives include developing and executing promotional programs for authorized and preferred resellers, hotels, and Convention Bureaus with the objective of attracting tourism and leisure business to ZooTampa. The candidate for this position must possess excellent strategic, organizational, promotional, communication, and cooperative skills.

We have grown to what now encompasses 56 acres of naturalistic wildlife habitats in a lush, tropical garden setting with wide-ranging activities. Your day to day
Essential Functions (including but not limited to):
  • Actively participates in strategic planning and development of organizational initiatives tied to attendance and revenue goals.   
  • Sets clear annual sales goals, and ensures consistent implementation of sales strategy.
  • Establishes and maintains ongoing client relationships with authorized and preferred resellers, hotels, and sales partners to include conducting site visits monitoring the use of brand positioning and executing sales agreements. 
  • Attends and represents the Zoo at trade shows to promote the destination and products.
  • Develops and recommends positioning, packaging, and pricing of products and packages to achieve the highest possible market share.
  • Regularly assesses reseller ticket products and packages to ensure they in line with ZooTampa’s overall pricing strategy. 
  • Ensures the Zoo’s brand image is properly represented throughout all sales partner channels.
  • Provides monthly reports on prospects, venue visitations, relationship-building strategies, and sales goals achievements. 
  • Regularly provides forecast reports to assist with overall budget management.
  • Monitors and reports on sales activities of competitors as well as industry and economic trends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or related field required.
  • Five to ten years of experience in sales, communications, marketing, or advertising required (Zoo, theme park, travel experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully developing and implementing sales plans and strategies. 
  • Demonstrated experience in financial and budgetary tracking skills.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the in-market sales process and all outreach efforts to generate ticket sales.
  • Must have the ability to identify, solicit, and execute new accounts.
  • Must be familiar with sales efforts to generate reseller accounts.
  • Must be able to represent Zoo’s interest with State and local visitors’ bureaus and all applicable agencies.
  • Must have a competent understanding of point-of-sales management and collateral support.
  • Must be able to foster positive client relations to enhance ticket sales.
  • Must be a self-starter who works well with little or no supervision.
  • Must have the ability to write and verbally communicate effectively.
  • Must have the ability to follow specific instructions, motivate others, and be comfortable self-directing.
  • Capacity to anticipate: the ability to think ahead and plan.
  • Capacity to change: the ability to identify and correct operational problems quickly and work in a dynamic environment and impact change.
  • Management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to think logically and solve problems diplomatically with minimal guidance.   
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, flexible, and creative.
  • Ability to work within strict deadlines, multi-task, and manage time effectively.
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude with the public.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and contribute effectively to the department.
Other Requirements:
  • Conducts all activities in alignment with AZA standards and guidelines, all relevant laws and regulations, safety standards, and standards that ensure animal welfare.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (i.e., heat, rain, or cold).
  • Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be willing and able to work varied and long shifts including holidays and weekends.
  • Must be willing to travel (primarily local, although some extended and overnight travel may be expected).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to adapt well to various other computer programs.
