Water Feature Pool Mechanic

Provide mechanical service to animal exhibits and public displays at the Dallas Zoo while ensuring water quality through testing, maintenance and repair of displays and exhibits.


  • Apply knowledge of water chemistry, chemical control systems and electrical control panels, general plumbing and electrical construction, maintenance practices and principles.
  • Troubleshoot and repair pool equipment and related parts such as filters, pumps, lights; make recommendations for replacement as needed.
  • Understand and apply safety practices when working with heavy mechanical equipment, hazardous materials and gases.
  • Complete water feature repair paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Monitor inventory of pool equipment, pool material and plumbing supplies needed for daily repairs.
  • Experience working with harsh chemicals in both hot and cold external environments.
  • Supply timely communication to management about needs for repairs or maintenance and the completion of maintenance work requests.
  • May be required to lift 50 lbs. and perform other physical activities such as climbing, stooping, bending and lifting.
  • Perform various duties as assigned up to and including daily care and exhibit pool cleaning.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have ability to use plumber and electrician hand tools and maintain pool filtration systems.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical problems.
  • Must be able to perform basic to intermediate maintenance on pool systems.
  • Prior experience in pool/water chemical maintenance/repairs, electrical systems and working in confined spaces desired.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions and with dangerous chemicals.
  • A valid driver’s license is needed.

Successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug screening, background check and TB test.
